During my process of becoming a woman and a mother, I have realized that I am very much like a tree. This realization has had a significant impact on my work. I view the oppression and liberation of women and nature as interconnected. In my artwork, nature represents power, energy, and spirits of place as female deities.
Trees represent strength, endurance, and fertility. It seems as though they carry the weight of the world. Many of them have been around longer than any of us have. Can you imagine the things that they have seen? I often wish that I could look inside their memories.
Trees are my muse. I am always admiring and observing them. I'll pay homage to these kindred spirits under the heading "My Sanctuary", because they are sacred beings and natural environments are sacred spaces. There is one tree in particular that I used to drive by everyday. She was my favorite. I watched that tree throughout the seasons and was inspired daily by her grace, so I named her "Grace". She was very old and started to decay as time passed. Thankfully, I got a picture of her before her family cut her down.
I still look at that empty space everyday and catch glimpses of her spirited thighs anchored deeply into the earth and her weary arms reaching towards the heavens giving praise to her creator. She still inspires me to be more like her everyday. As I get older, I hope to grow stronger, wiser, and more graceful despite the weather or season just like my favorite tree "Grace".

Motherhood: The River of Chaos
"Chaos" pretty much sums it up! Yes, I am an artist, but I'm also the mother of four and a half children which basically means by the Fall, I will have my own starting line up. That's 5 kids! If I wasn't supposed to be anything else in this world, I know without a doubt that I am supposed to be a mom. Although it's a tad bit daunting, these little crumb snatchers of mine are truly my greatest works of art. There is certainly an art to being a mother and each of my kids are works in progress. I am constantly designing, sketching, painting, molding, and sculpting them into masterpieces and I am constantly having to erase and ball up the blue prints! They keep me going back to the drawing board, but they also keep me creative in more ways than I could ever imagine. I'll share our "creative exploits" from time to time under the heading "The River of Chaos". Until next time, we'll be rollin, rollin, rollin on the river!(left to right: Damir 3yrs, Daj'zha 7yrs, D'zion 12yrs, De'kel 13yrs)

Welcome Home!
I'm finally doing it. I'm taking a leap off of the blogging bridge. Looking forward to inspiring those who stop by to read, but most of all, I'm hoping that my blog will fuel my passion to create. I've got a lot of projects brewing, but it took me so long to make this page look cute, I'd rather take a nap! So stayed tuned, while I imagine that I'm swinging from a hammock in the highest tree . . . zzzzzzzzzzz.
